LUMDING: Thefts and robberies have become a daily occurrence as another incident of robbery took place in the Lumding town of Assam creating major risks for the people of the region.

Apart from looting several business houses, the thieves also stole several two-wheelers when people were not around. It can be noted that over 6 two-wheelers have been stolen in the last month alone and several houses have been robbed of cash, valuables and other important items.

In the most recent development, a robbery took place in the Jarangdisa locality of the town. The robbers entered the residence of one Partha Acharjee and cleaned up the residence of all valuables. The robbers reportedly entered the residence through the window and stole about Rs 50000 in cash, gold and other ornaments, brass and bell metal utensils and other important items.

Although such incidents are being reported on a regular basis from the town, the police have yet to make any substantial progress in this direction. The same has been alleged by the president of the Hojai district unit of the Congress party, Biswajeet Roy Choudhary and former MLA Swapan Kar while mentioning the recent robbery in the residence of the former Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly Late Debesh Chakraborty. The local people alleged that the home department which is under the chief minister has failed to catch the miscreants and maintain the law and order situation and this has triggered insecurities among the local residents regarding their life and property.

Meanwhile, in a daring daylight theft, two individuals riding a motorcycle targeted a woman in the Balipara area of Maligaon, Guwahati city, and forcibly snatched a necklace from her neck on Tuesday. Shaken by the incident, the victim wasted no time and promptly reported the theft to the Jalukbari Police Station, providing details of the crime. Local authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter to identify and apprehend the culprits responsible for this audacious theft. Further updates on the ongoing investigation are awaited.
